Who Needs a Boater Safety Certificate?

Under the new regulations, all individuals born on or after January 1, 2005, are required to obtain a Boater Safety Certificate to operate a motorized vessel on Massachusetts waters. This includes personal watercraft (PWC) such as jet skis.

How to Obtain the Certificate

To obtain a Boater Safety Certificate, individuals must complete an approved boating safety course. These courses cover essential topics such as navigation rules, emergency procedures, and Massachusetts-specific boating laws. Courses are available both in-person and online through providers approved by the Massachusetts Environmental Police.

Grandfather Clause

Boaters born before January 1, 2005, are not required to obtain a Boater Safety Certificate under the new regulations. However, it is highly recommended that all boaters, regardless of age, take a safety course to enhance their knowledge and ensure safety on the water.

Enforcement and Penalties

The Massachusetts Environmental Police will enforce the new requirements. Boaters found operating a vessel without the required certificate may be subject to fines and other penalties.

📅 Upcoming Boating Safety Courses

To help our community comply with the new requirements, [Your Marina Name] will be hosting a series of boating safety courses throughout the spring and summer. These courses are open to all and will be conducted by certified instructors. Stay tuned for our upcoming schedule and registration details.
